Match Overview - Arsenal vs. Leeds

Arsenal vs Leeds pits the champions against the surprise package of the Premier League 2026/27 season. Only three points and three places separate the two sides, and Mikel Arteta needs a response after his team’s first defeat of the campaign.

Arteta signed a new long-term contract during the break, but the good news arrives alongside a crowded treatment room. On the pitch, Arsenal have won their last five league games at the Emirates, scoring 10 and conceding just once.

Leeds bring the joint-best defensive record in the division, with three goals conceded in five matches. Daniel Farke’s 3-5-2 has frustrated Brentford, Brighton and Crystal Palace, while Newcastle were swept aside 4-1 at Elland Road.

History is the obstacle for the visitors. Leeds have lost their last eight meetings with Arsenal, including a 5-0 defeat at the Emirates last season. A win would lift Arsenal level with City on points, at least until the leaders play.

Arsenal Look to Bounce Back After the Brighton Setback

Brighton ended Arsenal’s perfect start on 19/09. Pascal Gross, Charalampos Kostoulas and Chema Andrés scored at the Amex, inflicting the champions’ heaviest league defeat since May 2023 and handing top spot to Manchester City. Arteta described the result as a big lesson for his squad.

Before that afternoon, the Gunners had won all seven games in all competitions, beating Coventry, Aston Villa, Chelsea and Sunderland in the league and Napoli away in Europe. Bukayo Saka leads the squad with three league goals.

The bigger worry is fitness. William Saliba (back) and Christos Tzolis (thigh) are out, Kai Havertz is a major doubt, and Ben White and Cristhian Mosquera face late tests. Declan Rice and Ezri Konsa left international duty with knocks, though neither problem looks serious.

Viktor Gyökeres arrives in good form after scoring regularly for Sweden and should lead the line, supported by Martin Ødegaard and Eberechi Eze.

Leeds Arrive Unbeaten With the Division's Tightest Defence

Nine points from 15 tell only part of the story. Farke has built Leeds around a compact 3-5-2, and the results show it, with a 1-0 win at Nottingham Forest, a 4-1 home win over Newcastle and draws with Brentford (1-1), Brighton (1-1) and Crystal Palace (0-0).

Ethan Ampadu and Ao Tanaka screen a back three marshalled by Nico Elvedi, while Jayden Bogle and Gabriel Gudmundsson provide width. Noah Okafor’s pace complements Calvert-Lewin’s threat in the air, and Anton Stach adds energy from midfield.

Goals remain the question. Four of Leeds’ five league games produced two goals or fewer, and Farke admitted his side moved the ball too slowly in the Palace stalemate. Their only defeat of the season came in the Carabao Cup, a 6-3 loss at Chelsea.

The Whites also travel without Joe Rodon (thigh), Mateo Joseph (ACL) and Jean-Matteo Bahoya (ankle), while Harry Wilson is a doubt.

Arsenal vs Leeds Prediction Backs a Narrow Gunners Win

Our Arsenal vs Leeds prediction is a home win. Five straight league wins at the Emirates and eight consecutive victories over Leeds outweigh the visitors’ unbeaten start.

We do not expect a rout, though. Leeds have conceded only three goals, Arsenal may lack Saliba and Havertz, and four of Leeds’ league games stayed under 2.5 goals. That makes under 2.5 goals our second angle, with an Arsenal win and under 3.5 goals as the third.

Arsenal vs. Leeds Predicted Lineups

Both managers face late fitness calls after a three-week break. We expect Arteta to stay with his 4-2-3-1 and Farke to keep the 3-5-2 that has conceded three goals in five games. Confirmed teams arrive an hour before kick-off.

Arsenal

Arteta should hand Gyökeres the striker role if Havertz misses out, with Timber at right-back in place of White. Rice is expected to start beside summer signing Bruno Guimarães, while Konsa partners Gabriel.

Arsenal (4-2-3-1): Raya; Timber, Konsa, Gabriel, Calafiori; Rice, Guimarães; Saka, Ødegaard, Eze; Gyökeres. Manager: Mikel Arteta.

Out: Saliba (back), Tzolis (thigh). Doubtful: Havertz, White (groin), Mosquera (thigh).

Leeds

Farke is likely to name an unchanged shape, with Ampadu anchoring midfield and Okafor partnering Calvert-Lewin. James Justin and Tarik Muharemovic complete the back three in front of James Trafford, the goalkeeper behind the league’s joint-best defence.

Leeds (3-5-2): Trafford; Justin, Elvedi, Muharemovic; Bogle, Tanaka, Ampadu, Stach, Gudmundsson; Okafor, Calvert-Lewin. Manager: Daniel Farke.

Out: Rodon (thigh), Joseph (ACL), Bahoya (ankle). Doubtful: Wilson (thigh).
